Immerse yourself in local island life, nourish yourself, and serve those in need. Our days are spent surfing world class waves, practicing yoga and mediation, and helping our island dogs and cats through treatment, a spay and neuter clinic event, fostering and adoption. This unique experience immerses you into the landscape and local culture of our island alongside locals, visitors, travelers and guides. In addition to surf, yoga asana and meditation, our practice of Seva, or selfless service, deepens our own spiritual growth and support the growth of our community with Puppy Puddle Siargao.
Puppy Puddle Siargao is a non-profit organization created to help end the suffering of street dogs in the Philippine island of Siargao. With immediate, day-to-day rescue missions, periodic mass spay / neuter clinics and a long term plan for creating an island dog shelter, we bring the community together and give back to the island we all love so dearly.
By joining this immersion you are directly saving our island animals. Your tuition funds a daylong mass spay and neuter clinic. Our monthly clinics help to control overpopulation on the island and offer a better quality of life for our island dogs and cats.
All levels are welcome. We offer support and modifications for beginners as well as options for more experienced practitioners. All classes will be offered in the Durga Temple, a stunning new outdoor shaded native yoga shala. We will hold two classes daily. Class times are based on tides and surf, but we’ll have one invigorating, energizing, early morning asana practice daily and one calming, relaxing, restorative afternoon practice, with post-surf, meditation, yoga nidra and sound healing elements.
We offer surf for all levels. April is a wonderful time of the year for surf- with gentle off shore winds and clean conditions. There are around 12 surf spots working at this time of the year, which means most spots are fairly uncrowded and there is a spot for everyone from complete beginner to advanced. Our surf package comes with a surf board and an Instructor / Surf Guide depending on your level. Surfing in the Philippines is all about smiles and fun. Filipinos are one of the happiest and friendliest people on the planet and you can really feel this when in the water. We ensure that the instructors and guides taking care of you are a perfect mix of knowledge, sweetness and fun!
The main volunteer event is a mass spay / neuter clinic scheduled towards the end of our retreat.
We partner with PPBCC Foundation and some of the best veterinarians in the country. PPBCC Foundation specializes in a flank method which is an extremely effective and fast spay / neuter procedure, 5–15 minutes for both males and females. It ensures a very fast recovery (normally two days), minimal post-procedure complications and infections, minimal use of post-procedure medication. This gives us the option to operate on street and community centers, on stray animals as well as animals in poor communities.
We have volunteer options available ranging from: preparation in the days before, registration of patients, shaving the patients to prepare for the procedure, carrying of the animals to the recovery area, watching over recovering animals, administering of antibiotics and skin medications - all depending on your comfort level. Note that this is a whole day event. The task, time and amount you would like to assist volunteering is completely up to you. Yoga and surf are still offered.
Volunteer work on the day following our clinic of will include doing rounds around the household to check up on the animals post-operation as well as administering anti-mange (skin disease) medications and food.

Siargao is a tropical, teardrop shaped island just a 2.5 hour flight southeast of Manila. We’re best known for our world class surf breaks and the famous Cloud 9. Take a SUP to Sugba Lagoon or in the mangroves, go island hopping on a bangka (outrigger), ride a motorbike through the coconut forest to beaches up north, or just chill on the beach. General Luna is a vibrant town with diverse cuisines and a great music scene. Our culture is one of respect for nature and a life of surf and joy. Filipinos are warm and our community helps each other thrive. Many visitors never leave.
The Venue & Food
Nestled within the jungles our a wave-fringed island, the Lotus Shores Yoga, Surf & Farm Retreat is a place for yogis, seekers, surfers, and conscious adventurers traveling to Siargao to rest, manifest, connect, get barreled and (or) enlightened. It was founded on the goal of Yoga, the realization of the unity of Being, often experienced in the act of wave-riding. Life at the retreat is a celebration, exploration and preservation of the sacred wisdom that yoga and surfing have to teach us about ourselves and the world around us. The commune is home to the island’s only yoga center, and Kali Ma Cafe, a plant-based kitchen and restaurant. Our meals locally sourced and served family style.

The Retreat Leaders
I have 20 years of yoga practice and am ERYT-500 Instructor. I started practicing yoga in 1998 as a relief from a back injury, pain and trauma. In 2008 opened a yoga studio in Portland, Oregon, and was certified in the Anusara method. Since 2014, I’ve been assisting and training with Tara Judelle in Embodied Flow™, a yoga methodology that integrates the biomechanics and alignment from my Anusara background with the philosophy of Tantra, embodiment practices inspired by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Embodied Anatomy and Somatic psychology. My yoga background is diverse, I’ve studied Anusara, Tantra, Vipassana, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Somatic Movement and Nigerian dance.
I’ve been leading yoga and outdoor retreats for a decade to connect the inner practices of yoga with the teachings of the nature. I want to welcome all people to yoga as a source of nourishment, growth and fun. I have all gratitude to many teachers: Tara Judelle, Emil Wendel, Tony Guiliano, Kenny Graham, Todd Tesen, Naime Jezzeny and Sue Elkind. Off the mat I’m on a skinning on splitboard, sliding on snowboard, surfing, diving, drawing in ink, or cooking you a meal.
Yoga Instructor & Puppy Puddle Founder
Alex is a RYT-200 from Poland, residing in the Philippines for the last 9 years and in Siargao for nearly 3. She completed her first 200h Multi-Style training in Dharamsala, India with Trimurti Yoga in 2015 and is about to enter her second 200h Embodied Flow training in Siargao with Satu Tuomela in November. She is also a Level II certified Sound Healer. As a resident teacher in Lotus Shores her offering includes yummy post surf yoga, Sound Bath with Yoga Nidra and occasional Vinyasa and Gentle Flow. Alex started surfing when she first moved to Siargao and it instantly became a huge part of her life. In no way competitive, she treats surf as a way to connect to mama Ocean, wash away whatever stress island life can possibly bring and connect to those around her- you will often find her chatting away in a line up and letting the best waves pass by.
Alex is a Founder of Puppy Puddle Siargao and while not teaching or surfing she spends her free time tending to those fur legged friends in need.
Plan to arrive on April 21st at Lotus Shores Siargao. If you would like to arrive earlier, please make a reservation directly with the retreat center. Stays and before April 21 and the evening of April 27th are additional and paid directly to Lotus Shores.
Ideally you’ll connect through Manila (NAIA) from your international flight. Transfers can be unpredictable, and can sometimes involve carrying your luggage on a bus to a different terminal after clearing customs. Give yourself time to make your domestic transfer, ideally 3 hours minimum between your arrival time in Manila to your domestic departure flight to Siargao. The flight from Manila to Siargao is about 2 hours.
Sayak Airport (IAO) in Siargao is small. You’ll walk off the plane onto the tarmac to an arrival area. Your luggage will be carried from the plane for your pick up. Exit the luggage area towards the pickup area, a van driver will await you with a sign. The drive to the retreat center is about 30–40 minutes
